League Two Betting Review - 6 March 2006

Leyton Orient failed to take full advantage of a host of teams not playing this weekend but moved to within one point of an automatic promotion place. The O’s let a two goal lead slip at Shrewsbury Town to draw the match 3-3.

A 30-yard free kick from Matt Lockwood and a low strike by Paul Connor put Orient had put 6/4 Orient 2-0 up after 26 minutes. The Shrews hit back with three goals in six minutes to lead at the break through Mark Stallard after 39, Dave Edwards on 41 and Sagi Burton on the stroke of half-time. Adam Tann levelled matters for the visitors two minutes into the second half.

Wycombe Wanderers missed a glorious opportunity to oust Carlisle United from the top of the table when they slipped 2-1 at Cheltenham Town. Roger Johnson gave the 8/5 Chairboys the lead after 16 minutes but Gavin Caines equalised on 72. Wycombe’s Kevin Betsy was sent off for foul and abusive language two minutes later and the 6/4 play-off chasing Robins struck a dramatic injury time winner through Steven Gillespie.

A 1-1 draw did neither relegation strugglers Rushden & Diamonds or promotion hopefuls Grimsby Town at Nene Park. Ben Futcher headed the 13/10 Mariners in front on the hour but teenager Simeon Jackson hit back for bottom-but-one placed Diamonds after 72 minutes.

Stockport County stay out of the bottom two on goal difference despite losing 2-0 at Peteborough United. Dean Holden broke the deadlock for 7/10 Posh after 70 minutes while Ryan Semple added a second two minutes from time to keep the club in the play-off zone.

Wrexham came from two goals behind to steal a point at Barnet, themselves looking over their shoulders at the relegation trapdoor. Jason Norville and Tresor Kandol gave the 8/5 Bees a two goal cushion after 37 minutes before Mark Jones handed the North Wales outfit a lifeline one minute before the break. Matt Derbyshire netted the equalised six minutes into the second half.

The mid-table clash between Notts County and Mansfield Town also produced a 2-2 draw.

Feeding and Training a Racing Greyhound

Feeding and Training a Racing Greyhound.

The following is a guide to feeding and training a racing greyhound. It should be used as a basis, or starting point if you like, to feeding and training your racing greyhound.

Morning routine:

Exercise … a to 1 mile walk followed by a free gallop in a paddock or large yard.

Many trainers now use parallel galloping runs about 110 yards long and 6 to 8 yards wide. Large training establishments have 10 or more such runs alongside each other. The dogs go into the yards one to each yard, and work against each other for about 10 minutes each morning.

After their exercise they go back to the kennels for a quick rubdown, a drink of electrolytes, with maybe some glucose and a touch of milk added, Vitamin C, E with selenium and a 4×2 dog biscuit.

Later in the morning any known injuries are treated with Ultrasound, Magnetic Field, or Laser as needed.

At about Midday they are let out for an empty.

Any trips to the Vet are done in the Afternoon, with an evening walk of about a mile at 3 to 4 pm, followed by feeding the main meal of the day.

Evening Feed.

For protein you should feed raw beef… 1lb to 1lb depending on the size of the dog, with kibble or wholemeal bread for carbohydrates. The beef should have about 5-10% fat. If you are feeding lean beef, you’ll need to add some lard to the meal. Add some fine grated carrot, celery and parsley and maybe some garlic. Vegetables are needed for Vitamins, minerals and to add fibre and roughage to the diet. If feeding veggies raw, they need to be fine minced, I use a kitchen whiz for this… a handful of minced vegetables to each dog.

Racing Greyhounds need a vitamin and mineral supplement added to their diet to ensure they are getting what their body needs to cope with the stress of a racing.

Cook up a stew once a week for variety… use beef, roo, mutton, chicken or whatever is local and cheap. Add carrots, cabbage greens, celery, parsnips, swedes, a little parsley, and some garlic.

Take your dog out to relieve himself late in the evening, before settling down for the night.

If the climate is cold, you should rug your Greyhound, especially at night, as they have a fine coat, and little to no body fat to keep them warm.

Toronto Raptors Get First Bite At NBA Draft

As the NBA draft, slated to be held in New York on the 28th of June rapidly approaches, one team has seen the luck of the lottery draw turn in its favor. The Toronto Raptors with a lowly 8.8 percent chance of winning the ping-pong ball type lottery stole the front seat and stand a good chance of gaining some leverage from it. This is the first time Toronto has received the first pick overall in an NBA draft.

This winning comes in the wake of some extremely disastrous seasons, the firing of general manager Rob Babcock, and the hiring of Bryan Colangelo to replace him. It is felt that this is a step in the right direction for the team, as they have had some not so lucky bounces in the league. What is rather disappointing to the franchise however is the lack of a definitive No. 1 pick in this years draft. There really is not a lot of depth heading into June, as far as the available talent is concerned.

Some of the top candidates for the No. 1 pick include the likes of LSU forward Tyrus Thomas, Gonzaga forward Adam Morrison, and Texas centre LaMarcus Aldridge. All of which are mere underclassmen, hardly a solid line of top talents available to choose from if you are looking to turn a franchise around. There have been no conversations between the top prospects and the Raptors, at the moment. A very positive note however, is that Toronto has plenty of Cap space available for the upcoming season. This along with the lottery winning, could indeed spell a somewhat successful season for the Raptors should they make an effort to move this No. 1 pick for a seasoned roster player.

Only time will tell, as Bryan Colangelo being as successful as he has been in the past will no doubt bring some solid acquisitions to Toronto. This can only be a good thing; perhaps Toronto fans really will have something to be happy about when it comes to the NBA.

Kayaking footwear

Kayaking footwear comes in several different designs, to keep your feet safe and, in some cases, warm.

Kayaking will obviously not require the same type of footwear that you would wear to the store or on the street. However, since you will not always be in the kayak (eventually you’re going to have to come back to land and get out of it), you’ll probably want to have some sort of shoes just in case you have to come back to a rougher part of the beach. You don’t want to hurt your feet just because you have been in a kayak.

Something to keep in mind about regular shoes, of course, is that they tend to be fairly heavy. Therefore, if you end up using a regular pair of shoes, you will probably be adding unnecessary weight to your feet. Part of the reason that you’re adding extra weight is that regular shoes do not repel water in the same way that water footwear would. The other down side do this is that your regular shoes will also not dry out very quickly at all. In fact, you’ll probably be stuck with wet shoes for a long time after you finally get done kayaking.

The best type of footwear for kayaking is more like a slipper. These shoes might not be waterproof, but if you are in water that is too cold for your feet, you should probably look into getting a dry suit that covers your feet as well.

The nice thing about these slipper shoes is that as soon as you step out of the water, most of it will drain away. The result is that you are left with damp but not too soggy shoes which will probably dry out fairly quickly. The other thing that you get with this footwear instead of going barefoot is that you’ll know that your feet are being protected each time you step on the bottom - and considering that you can never be quite sure what is just under the sand, this is probably a good thing.

However, if the slipper footwear is not right for you, several other companies offer sandals that might suit your needs as well. While sandals will not close over your feet in the same way, they will still be able to protect your feet from anything that happens to be under the sand.

You can also purchase socks for kayaking which will keep your feet warm.

Football Managers - Improve Your Behaviours and Improve Your Players’ Performance

The job of football manager must be the toughest and most stressful management role on the planet. There is no hiding. Your results are immediate - once or even twice a week. Club Boards and fans want instant results. Poor performance is punished ruthlessly and in public. Humiliation is a constant companion.

Under this constant pressure one can understand why many managers rant and rave on the sidelines, on television, radio and in the press. However, they are unaware that their aggressive and insulting behaviour is damning their players to continued poor performance.

In today’s competitive world almost all football managers know that at Premier League level most players are equal as far as fitness and skills go. What makes the STAR, what makes the exceptional player is mental fitness. It is mental fitness that wins games.

So why do many managers behave in ways that damage their players’ mental fitness? Surely it can only be ignorance (in it’s true meaning) - because every manager wants success for his players and club.

So here are seven things a football manager must do to build his/her players’ mental fitness

1.Promise openly, right now, never to criticise any of your players in public. Not even if it’s justified. You’ll do your straight talking in private and if you decide to fire a player you’ll do it in the most decent way possible.

2.Tell your players that you like them, that you think they are great players and that you know every one of them does the best he/she can in every game. You trust them.

3.Do whatever it takes to get fun and enjoyment back into the team. People cannot perform at their peak when they’re afraid, worried or unhappy. Make having fun your main objective. Work hard - yes! Win games - of course. But let’s not beat ourselves up when we make mistakes. Let’s get the fun back in our football and our lives.

4.Genuinely praise even the smallest improvement or the tiniest spark of brilliance and praise openly. Especially when things are going badly. Big fires start from small sparks. Really look for things to praise.

5.Stop shouting, mocking and insulting - even in private. Your macho ego may feel good but it does your players no good at all. In fact, they’ll subconsciously hate you and will play badly to spite you - and they won’t even know they’re doing it. Concentrate on helping people do better - not on crushing them with sarcasm.

6.Make it your main goal to help each individual become the best player he/she can possibly be. Be seen to be helping players with their careers. If your club cannot satisfy the playing or wage aspirations of a brilliant player, work with him to find the best transfer possible. Imagine the effect this will have. Players will give you undying loyalty and effort when they know you are there for them.

7.Find ways to keep players’ minds focussed on success. Every day - several times a day make statements that predict success and expect success. Do not even hint at losing! Allow time for players to visualise that success - everything comes from a dream.

Yes, some money to buy in talent is helful but it is not everything. Seriously apply these seven rules for two weeks and see your team improve beyond what you ever thought possible.

The Best Boats for Water Skiing

Boats and skiing go hand in hand. Can you even dream about
skiing without first dreaming about a boat? So this forms one of
the foremost accessories for your perfect ski adventure.

There are different types of boats around and each and ever
machine is different. Like a car, even a boat is used for
different purpose, and depending on the purpose, you need to
choose the right one.

As said before, a boat selection could go a long way. A small
motor boat might suit the lake but feel like a fish when you
test in ocean. Remember a shark is meant for an ocean and not a
lake. So choose a boat as though you would choose a car,
depending on your requirements. Propulsion machinery is what
defines a motor boat. And they are divided into four classes
depending on the length, which further determines the
registration fee and so on.

Remember to buy boats that give you power to cut through the
water. Usually they are the light motor boats with two seats.
They are good enough for skiing.

A water skier might want to take more people with him that are
when he would like to move on to boats with higher seating
capabilities…

The store will help you decide the right kind of boat. Tell them
your requirements. A perfect boat is the one that you think is
perfect. So, make a fine choice.

If money is a constraint, then head for used boats. They are
available in good shape and at good rates.

Have good safety equipment on board and carry the right and
necessary equipments. Hence, not just the boat but also the
equipments play a very crucial role in determining your ski
prowess.

Gift Ideas for Canoeing Enthusiasts

Finding good Christmas gifts ideas is easy if you think about a person’s hobbies. If you are buying for person who enjoys canoeing, here are a few ideas for canoeing gifts.

Canoeing Gifts

Canoeing is a sport that appears to require relatively small amounts of equipment. In truth, it is much more than a paddle and a canoe, which provides you with a lot of potential gift ideas.

1. Yokes - This yoke has nothing to do with eggs. A yoke is a device that hooks onto a canoe to make it easy to lug it around. Typically made of wood, the yoke sites perpendicular to the length of the canoe and is padded. Easily connected to the canoe, the boat is typically flipped over to be carried by putting the padded yoke on your shoulders. A godsend for getting to and from the water as well as bypassing low water areas on rivers. A yoke will set you back in the $20 to $60 range. The Voyageur brand is a good place to start.

2. Handmade Wood Canvas Canoe - If you’re looking for a big ticket item, why not consider giving a handmade wood canvas canoe as a gift? Unlike modern canoes, these wood canvas canoes are made with painstaking care and incredible craftsmanship. With beautiful lines and an air of grace, this is the ultimate canoe for traditionalists. Since each one is handmade, you can expect to pay a pretty premium of $2,000 or more. If this sounds like the perfect gift, take a look at Spencer Canoe Company in Canada.

3. Back Supports - Sitting in a canoe for a few hours is not easy on the lower back. Back support are curved devices that create or support existing seating in the canoe. Back supports are a must for weekend warriors who only canoe once every month or so. It is hard to enjoy canoeing if your back is killing you! Look for the Crazy Creek brand and expect to pay between $20 and $30.

4. Nomad Paddle Sports Journals - A bit of self-promotion here. Nomad Paddle Sports Journals are waterproof writing journals that let canoers keep notes during and after their trips. Really great for writing down impressions, routes taken, things seen, people met, alternative routes to be tried in the future and so on. You can click the link at the bottom of this article to see the paddle sports journals which cost $8.99.

If you’re buying gifts for a canoeing enthusiast, the above list is a good place to start.
